The Diminishing Senses

Within the structure of the psyche, there lies an unseen mechanism – an intricate system that allows us to experience the world. This system, often referred to as the ‘sense mechanism’, is the bridge between the spiritual and the material. It translates the pure transmission of reality into frequencies that our intelligence can sensibly perceive.

Over time, the purity of this system has become corrupted. The destructive forces of the human psyche have imperceptibly dulled our sensitivity. What was once an untainted channel for experiencing the magnificence of the sensual world has become a mere shadow of its original splendour. Today, many of us have lost the ability to use our senses in their intended capacity. We no longer experience life with the same vibrancy as our ancestors did, and the earth’s beauty no longer manifests in its full uncompromising glory.

At the dawn of human consciousness, when our minds were free-flowing and unencumbered, the earth was seen with a purity and immediacy that no longer exists. There were no layers of past experience to distort the receptivity of beauty as it entered the world. In this state, life retained a golden essence, and the impulse within every person was to love the beauty they saw as a direct reflection of the divine. This love was not learned but was innate, a deep connection to the sacred nature of all things.

However, as time passed, the purity of this love was overshadowed. The hardness of the world – our accumulated experiences and the distractions of modern living created a dense covering, obscuring the simple, innate connection we once had with life. Now, beauty is often hidden behind a veil, and many no longer recognise it in its true form.

In modern times, the emphasis on the senses has shifted. We have become fixated on two senses in particular: seeing and hearing. The proliferation of screens, devices, and virtual experiences has created a distorted sense of reality. Our sensitivity to the earth and its beauty has diminished, mirroring the disconnection people often feel from the natural world.

Only love made conscious has the power to unify the senses. The restorative energy of nature does much to offset the forces of the world, but no longer has the penetrative power to bring about an uninterrupted state of equilibrium and full potency of the knowledge of existence. The natural way the senses combine as one sense of life is through the sacred act of making physical love. This original state of being creates a sensual fusion that unites the normally separate senses of sight, touch feeling, smell, taste and hearing. Another name for this is the mysterious sixth sense. When lovers unit in the spirit of love, the energy of this spiritual embrace endures within the body for longer periods when all has been expressed in the flesh. The man or woman is then able to perceive life in a finer perspective with an assured sense of the purpose in the life.
